Erin Morgan (she/her), PhD, LMFT

I work with people who want better relationships with others and better relationships with themselves. Couples, families, and individuals I see are bright, curious, motivated people who find their lives disrupted somehow - by the intrusion of traumatic experiences, life transitions, or persistent struggles with mental health that don't resolve on their own. I have specialized experience working with torture and war trauma survivors, therapists and doctors, and folks anywhere on the gender and sexuality spectra.

How I Work

My passion is working through trauma treatment with couples, families, and individuals. At first, we'll identify goals and begin developing the trusting relationship that allows therapy to be helpful. I use a range of tools, including EMDR, mindfulness, and family of origin work to resolve underlying struggles and transform destructive beliefs into more peaceful living.

I respect clients’ wisdom, and I enjoy sharing my expertise. My approach is warm, kind, and sometimes a little irreverent. I consider issues of power, privilege, culture, and marginalization as we work. I'm a model of imperfection, relying on mindfulness, education, and a host of self-care practices to keep me healthy enough to talk to people about health.

My Background

I’ve been working with couples, families, and individuals who have experienced trauma for 25 years, 15 of those years as a licensed professional. I have worked with a wide range of clients in private and public settings in the United States and internationally, teaching, supervising, and conducting research. I have specialized experience working with:

  • Survivors of traumatic events including child abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, torture, and war;

  • Couples of all genders;

  • Families;

  • Parents and children;

  • LGBTQ folks;

  • Therapists and physicians;

  • Refugees and immigrants;

  • Francophones

I also provide supportive clinical supervision for therapists and train mental health and medical professionals in self-care, burnout prevention, and consult with health care organizations on managing difficult situations in the workplace.

Erin is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Minnesota (#1285) and a Minnesota State-Approved Supervisor.
