Karl Thomas (he/him), Therapy Intern
I believe every person – no matter their background, choices, circumstances, or therapeutic need – can change, grow and heal.
My goal is to walk beside you in this process and give you the resources, time and support you need. Starting therapy can be scary and overwhelming, so we will set a comfortable pace together.
How I Work
My strengths-based therapeutic approach integrates a wide variety of techniques to help you thrive. I will work to understand your “whys” in life and how your upbringing and family system impact who you are today. I work with couples, families, and individuals to address trauma, depression, anxiety, parenting, LGBTQIA+ issues, and other life stressors. I have a particular interest in religious trauma, and I have special training in Brainspotting, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and Psychological First Aid. We will use these tools to reframe the past, rewrite your life’s narrative, and help you move into the future with confidence.
I pay attention to the ways systemic injustice in our society impacts mental health and aspire to cultivate a sense of safety in a world that is fundamentally unsafe for anyone living with a marginalized identity. Each of us has intrinsic value, and I strive to help you identify, nurture, and maximize yours.
My Background
I am currently a graduate student at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota – Twin Cities working towards a MA in Marriage and Family Therapy. Being a therapist is a second career for me; my first was in the healthcare and hospitality industries, primarily in the fields of customer experience, leadership development, and training.
